Making PointsPlus® Work for You

The key to success on Weight Watchers' new Points Plus® Program is to make it a part of you. If you learn the points system for the foods that you eat most often, and make a commitment that you will keep your portions "real", you will lose weight.

And now it's been proven that Weight Watchers really is the most effective weight loss plan. In a study, dieters on Weight Watchers lost more than twice as many pounds as those under a doctor's care for weight loss.

Do This First!

Discover your new daily Points Plus® 2012 goal. In many cases it will be 26 points per day, but check to be sure. How do you find out? Attend a Weight Watchers meeting or sign up for Weight Watchers Online.

Get a Points Tracker based on the Points Plus® system. If you join the meetings, you will be able to buy it for a much-discounted price. There is also free access to the points calculator on the official Weight Watchers website but it helps to have a portable version, too.

The Weight Watchers Application is available as an IPhone app as well as for many other devices. For access to it you must be a Weight Watchers Online member or have purchased “E-tools” privileges.

Points Plus® Trackers can also be obtained through Amazon; the product is displayed for you on this Hub. (If a friend offers you theirs, be sure that it is the NEW Points Plus Tracker. Old trackers are not formatted for this progam.)

Weigh In!

You have to know your starting point in order to track your achievement. Weigh in at a meeting or use your own scale at home. Weigh the same time of day, once a week, and record the results. Don’t let small fluctuations bother you. If you are faithfully following the plan, you will lose weight.

Weight Watchers sells stylish, accurate scales for home. They are available through their meetings, at various retail stores and through Amazon. You can buy one here, right now.

Set a Goal

The leaders at your first meeting will help you to set your goal weight. Online tools also provide the help you need in deciding what weight you would like to strive for. Be realistic. You may want to set smaller goals at first and re-set after you have reached the first one. If you need to lose 100 pounds, the first 25 is a great goal to shoot for! When you have a arrived, go for the next 25!

Weight Watchers Power Foods List

Weight Watchers® encourages its members to stick to the healthiest and most satisfying foods as the bulk of their daily intake. These foods satisfy the appetite longer and, per point, are the most nutritious selections.

Let power foods dominate your daily menu.

  • Fruits & berries -- fresh, frozen & canned without sugar
  • Vegetables – fresh, frozen, canned without oils or sugar
  • Lean Protein –NOT breaded, fried, processed or canned; watch your portions!
  • Dairy--low fat
  • Bread—whole grain where possible.

Don't Give Up!

Now that you know your daily points allotment, have set your weight loss goal, and are learning the plan, do it! Take it one day at a time, be diligent with tracking and recording your daily and weekly points, and watch the pounds melt away.

Remember, this is not a diet. It is a lifestyle. Enjoy the journey!

Success Stories!

Weight Watchers knows that a big ingredient to the success of the program is praise, encouragement and support. You'll get lots of that if you attend their meetings but they've also built it right into their online program and in their magazine, as well!

Here are just a few great success stories to build your faith that YOU can do it too! (You can!)

I am bookmarking this one for my daughters who are trying to shed those pounds.

Thanks for sharing and I look forward to reading more of your work now.

Take care

You're welcome, Eiddwen. I just joined Weight Watchers Online. Now that I'm writing, it's hard to fit meetings in. Tell your daughters that the meetings are great but if they can't do it, online is a good option. Just finished my first week back and lost 3.4 pounds! Yipee!

Good hub! I am on weight watchers and I love the program

I love it too, Suzie. If it weren't for tracking points, I could easily forget that I am on a weight loss plan. I even had peanut butter pie (the real thing) on Sunday and still lost 4 pounds.

I am a life-time member of weight watchers and am a huge bleiever in their philosaphy. They teach you portion control and how to eat healthy as a life-style. I am going to start again and I will check out your other hub on this program. I really like the point system. It's so much simpler than the older ones.

Thanks Minnetonka Twin. Anytime I stray from Weight Watchers, I always come back. It works!

I lost weight 8 years ago via Weight Watchers. I haven't kept up with the program, but have maintained my weight loss thanks to the different eating habits I learned. My husband is thinking of joining again, so it is nice to be able to learn about the new system. I like that fruit is free now!

I learned about the fruits at an actual Weight Watchers meeting...you should have heard the glee when they announced that fruit is free!

The Day after Thanksgiving: Is anybody getting out their Weight Watcher's plan book today?...or are we all going to wait until January 2?

lost about 28 lbs on w/w about a yeart or so ago and gained it all back. Im wondering, i was on the flex points and still have my book, is it just the power foods that have been added. cant really afford to sign up especially since i have alot of the stuff from before. thnks for any info

Yes, Sue, it is primarily the points. I have to say, they are even more invested than ever in their members' success. The first three meetings (which you can repeat as often as you need to) have "after meetings" that include a more thorough look at the plan and how to make it work best for you. It is very well done and I really appreciated the extra care.

Well, I meant it and in fact as a result of your information and the way you presented it. I did sign up for online weight watchers last evening. Thank you again. Susan

Where on earth can I just find a list of foods and their point valus? I joined online ww and cant find there, I feel their site is very hard to navigate and get around. NOt happy with it at all. It explains in great deal how the system works but where is a list of foods so I can go shopping? Cant find one with an online search either. Thanks

Hi Carla...To the best of my knowledge, you will need to either buy their book or use their online calculator to make your own. When I joined WW meetings, I got a book with points with my membership materials. If you have a Weight Watchers location nearby, stop by and ask them?
