Twitter, Facebook, Stumble Upon-Give the Gift of "Click".

Wouldn't she be surprised if she knew that you tweeted her work!
Wouldn't she be surprised if she knew that you tweeted her work!

Tweet or Like! It's FREE!

We've all come across an article, a website, a video, photo or hub that we really liked and did nothing about it. Right? After all, it was there for our enjoyment and we did just that -- we enjoyed it.

The author undoubtedly put it out there hoping we would. If only he or she knew that we liked it that much!

Those who are trying to establish an internet business, or are striving for an online writing career, know that building a faithful audience is not easy. You self-promote till you're blue in the face. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Yet, readers is why we write. We need them.

This is where Twitter and Facebook come in handy. When you read a blog post or hub that you really enjoy, compliment the writer with a positive comment, even follow them.

Definitely "tweet" or "like" their work to help them get more readers. Is the article outstanding? "Stumble" it, as well.

Give the writer the gift of your applause with a click.

It's so easy!

Twitter? Facebook? StumbleUpon?

What exactly are Twitter, Facebook and StumbleUpon? Popular as they may be, not everyone knows. Let's take a quick look for those who are not quite sure:

Twitter - a social networking site that allows short "tweets" of information to be sent to followers. 140 characters maximum. Use it to say something briefly meaningful, funny or nonsensical ...and, by all means, use it to share a really great post. You only get 140 characters so shorten the URL before inserting the link. Go to a URL shortening site such BITLY to produce one for free.

Facebook - a social networking site of over 800 million users! This site was designed for friends to keep in touch with friends and even make some new ones. First, set up an account. Now search for friends already on Facebook and send them an invitation to be your friend, as well.

An added Facebook feature that has helped many bloggers and writers further their audience is the "FANPAGE". This allows promotion on a business level. Whether "liking" a post to your personal friend-base or posting it on your fanpage, this is a powerful tool to get a wider reading audience. Just click "like".

StumbleUpon - utilizes the art of discovery. A reader "stumbles upon" something really good and "stumbles" it into a library of recommended works. In theory, they should be the best of the best on any given topic.

Say, for instance, you are interested in dogs. You can go to StumbleUpon and look up the category of "dogs" and a list of recommended articles, videos and photos will appear. How to get started: the Stumbler (that's you) sets up an account with a profile on StumbleUpon and from there you can recommend posts...others' and your own...with a click.

Stumble your own posts and do it for others, as well. By all means, only Stumble the best. When it comes to your own content, make sure that you proofread it well, reading it aloud before posting the finished work. If you insert links, set them up to open in their own window so that you don't lose your readers!

Don't Forget "Sharing"

HubPages writers, you have a following and it's growing. They love your work and comment on it often. When you come across a great hub, someone else's hub, be generous and share it with your readers.

Go to the "share-button" and send it out on the airwaves to your followers for them to enjoy. Of course, use the share-button for yourself, too (use with care--don't want to wear out your welcome) but do a good deed share someone else's work, too.

My Stumble Story...

Let me tell you a little story about StumbleUpon...I "stumbled upon it", so to speak.

One day I was checking my stats on my blog, Ducks 'n a Row, and out of the blue I had 14 views from a source I had never heard of: StumbleUpon. I sure found out about it quickly and set myself up with an account, too.

You see this discovery had to mean that somebody liked one of my posts well enough to stumble it. And then 14 people looked at it? I was floored! Truly someone gave me a great big gift! What a surprise. I acted like a little kid on Christmas morning.

When someone Tweets, Likes or Stumbles a post, it is like getting the best letter of recommendation. That gift from you to them is just three clicks away: Tweet, Like, Stumble!

So, go ahead. Do a good deed today. You may be instrumental in getting a newcomer started in a great career, or furthering one that is already on its way! In turn, somebody you don't even know may do some significant clicking for you, too.

Awesome post. I agree that those little buttons can go unnoticed most times. The positive feed back really does work wonders for those who wrote the article. It is nice to know your content is appreciated after pouring hours into it. I will make a point of clicking those buttons more often. Thanks =]

I am new to facebook but did not like twitter at all.

I think they serve two purposes. Each one can expose a new group of people to great articles. Facebook is much more social. Twitter is short and sweet. Quick thoughts, often with links. It took me some getting used to.

Great Hub ~~ and thank you for the reminders to help our fellow writers along in every way possible. :)

Thank you.

I have honestly come to believe that most will let those tweet and facebook buttons go unnoticed or will not click through the link even if tweeted or liked. I have never really received that much traffic via either. Wish that I could say differently.

When I see tweets & likes in my own accounts, the titles are everything. If it doesn't sound interesting to me, I skip it. If it does, I give it a chance. Hope your future gifts of tweets & likes bring you lots!

Very good idea, I am sad to say I haven’t thought about it before! But I will now and I am sure everyone benefits from it. I also like the thought of paying forward and show kindness to others. Thanks for the tips! Voted up! But I will now and I am sure everyone benefits from it. I also like the thought of paying forward and show kindness to others. Thanks for the tips! Voted up!

Good advice. I do like to tweet good articles on here. I dont generally use my fb to promote anything other than relational activity.

hubpages itself has given me the best most successful exposure thus far along with developing some precious relationships. It is a community in itself.

Sinea Pies 14 months ago

I agree. Hubpages is so much more than just a vehicle for writing. Thanks for the comment!

Great stuff - I really wish more people would do this so us writers can get the exposure we need. Thanks for writing (And I have shared it!) :)

I also like Stumble upon, but for some reason I'm not getting much action there, but I have gotten at least 10+ views from using it. I love Facebook to share things as well, but I would like to also add that if your not talking , and sharing with your friends there, they may not return the favor, as you have stated after the Stumbleupon part you spoke of here.

I'm not good at twitter, its too busy there for me, so I allow my auto sharing tools to do the job there for me, but I guess one day I'll try to get better at it there, sharing with strangers on it is tough though indeed.

Sharing other peoples stuff is so paramount in networking, many of us have no idea what a difference it actually makes. I discovered that here on hubpages, very early in the game like around the second day being a member, and I've been sharing ever since in every way possible. Selfless sharing is what changes everything, and not the spamming kind where you expect something back in return.

Sineas you are right about sharing, and I would like to let you know your sharing here with such a hub, is precious to us all. Thank you.

Try "Pearltrees" as well, its a content curation website, allowing for the storing & sharing of web locations. So you can take lift off digitally plus save your shares, it quite the anomaly indeed.

All great ways to share our work. I joined StumbleUpon the same way you did. One day I just noticed over 10 views came from that site so I decided to join to see what it was all about. It is the site I use the least but I am still grateful to the reader who shared my work. I recently noticed some views from Pinterest too so I may have to look into that joining that site soon. Great hub - voted up and useful!

Thanks so much for SHARING this JerryJupiter. Hopefully this will start a nice trend.

Great Hub you've written here. I have to say it's great to share the work of my fellow Hubbers on Hubpages.

Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites have of course a big impact on traffic by doing this, but my problem with these social networks, is bigger than the possibility of promoting my Hubs or others.

StumbleUpon I never knew but it sounds different. I'll have a look. I'm sure I'm losing a lot of traffic by not wanting to be part of any social network, but then again I love writing.

I'm glad to have followers on Hubpages, it's wonderful when they comment and I will always share Hubs that need to be shared.

Good job! Voted up, shared and away!

Pearltrees. CloudExplorer, I must check that out. Thank you for the affirmation that we are on the right track, here. I too don't put a lot of time into Twitter. My FB fanpage autoshares with Twitter.

Since I read Brett.Tesol's hub about sharing I have been doing a lot more with those little buttons! Now you've added Stumble Upon to my repertoire. Every day here is a learning experience and you have explained things very simply and easy to understand. Voted up. Thanks for SHARING.

Awesome hub, I have been a bit negligent in the past about using the like button and the share button as I don't want people to think I'm spamming, but it only makes sense to share what is really good with others. Thank you for writing this.

Sinea Pies 3 months ago

Thanks Alisaroberts. I have heard the name Pinterest, as well, but I have to say that I don't know anything about it yet. So many possibilities out there! Thanks for the vote UP and useful!

Escobana, thank you so much for sharing this hub and voting it up. I truly appreciate it. Following and getting followers right through HubPages is also a very good way to get traffic.

BWD316, glad you liked this hub. Thanks for the vote up and SHARE! I really appreciate it.

Thanks tillsontitan. Glad that you enjoyed this hub and thank you so much for the vote up.

Dmop, you are so right...there is a fine line between healthy promoting and spamming. Friends and followers should appreciate tips on really good hubs, though. :)

annart 2 months ago

As usual, very useful Sinea. I'm still trying to get to grips with all this techie stuff but I'll get there in the end! Voted up & useful of course.

Sinea Pies 2 months ago

Thank you annart for the vote up and useful...and SHARING it, too! Wow!

We're all "getting there". It's a constant learning process. Try Stumbleupon for hubs by you and others that have good strong content. Your traffic will increase and so will that of the others you "stumbled" in appreciation! :)

I agree, clicking up and sharing is very important to generate more readers! Voted you up and shared.

Sinea Pies 7 weeks ago

Thanks emilybee for the vote up AND share! I am sharing really good hubs with my followers more. We can't possibly read all the good ones and it's great when someone points us in the right direction!
